Rainforest Automation Eagle

Rainforestcloud.com has been down since 3:15AM PDT today. No consumption data since I believe PVOutput.org pulls the data from Rainforestcloud.com. Anybody else having this issue? I can access the Eagle locally just fine. It has been pushing data to Wattvision today with no issues. I am not going to shift to Wattvision for consumption data unless Rainforestcloud.com stays down for the weekend. I have created a ticket with Rainforest Automation Support but don’t expect an answer till Monday. Hoping it resolves itself shortly.

Confirming the rainforestcloud.com server is responding with 503 service unavailable.

The recommended method is to use Eagle Push instead of rainforestcloud.com

I’ve read that part of the help file a dozen times and I still don’t understand what is needed. I tried to input the sample given in the cloud configuration and it just barfed and did nothing. I think you have to set up a separate computer to provide the data stream if I understand correctly. I am not willing to do that. If there is a way to configure the Eagle in its settings, could you please tell me explicitly how to achieve this Eagle Post you keep referring to.

I lost patience waiting for rainforestcloud.com to come back online and reconfigured the Eagle to push to Wattvision and changed my pvoutput.org profile to Wattvision Autoloader. That seems to be working quite well. In fact what I have noticed is that I have not had ONE single consumption dropout since changing to Wattvision. I used to get multiple consumption dropouts every day from the Eagle Autoloader configuration.

See https://wattvision.readme.io/docs/rainforest-eagle-setup-1

Change the wattvision url shown above to -

https://pvoutput.org/service/r2/eaglepost.jsp?sid=[pvoutput_system_id]&key=[your_pvoutput_api_key]

Replace both -

  • [pvoutput_system_id]
  • [pvoutput_api_key]

Thanks for the links again. I still have no success. First thing I have searched and it looks like I need to download something called cURL, a programming language. I tried a cURL command on the Eagle configuration line and it didn’t do anything. I don’t know how to drop to a command line in the Eagle operating system. It appears to not allow the end-user to do that. I searched my computer and it does not have any indication of cURL. So I don’t know how to implement all the cURL command line examples listed in the API document your referred.

curl isn’t required, it is only a tool used for troubleshooting.

Eagle push is configured directly on your eagle device and tells it where to send data.

Rainforest support should be able assist with this setup - there is no documentation on their website on how to do this.

For now Wattvision is working very well for me. Much better than Rainforest. If things go south again, I will contact Rainforest Support directly for assistance in configuring Eagle PUSH.
