PV Systems with a battery

Maybe I have this all wrong but…

It appears that a lot of the PV systems that have a battery are showing on PVOutput that they are generating power and energy overnight.

Technically, I guess, (for power) this seems correct as the DC gets converted to AC thus meaning it is generating power.

But when you look on PVOutput, it appears as though the system is generating energy as well.

Shouldn’t the energy produced be only what the PV array produces?

Yes, it should only be what the PV array produces.

One of the major culprits is Solaredge systems with Solaredge batteries, I think the rather flawed thinking was that power in the battery came from the PV array, so its reported when it’s used. But a lot of people charge their battery from the grid overnight, and thus totally wrong generation figures are reported. You can see this happening, as a window without any generation in the early hours of the morning.

Some other systems also do it.

I thought that is how it was supposed to work but I do understand that the inverter is “technically” generating energy whilst drawing from the battery as well.

It’s not what I want to see on my outputs though, I prefer to see only the generation from the array.

Once I have finished my python script and make sure it works, I will spend some time trying to work out if I can get (what I would call) the real figures.
