Potential PVOuput Data Breach

As heading says, I have a strong suspicion that PVO may have been hacked. Either PVO or Whirlpool…

Note, I am NOT rabble rousing, or sh_t stirring, but I have strong suspicions, which I will outline.

Today, I received a “ransomware” email advising that I had been hacked and my visit to a “pron” site had been noted. If I didn’t pay up so many bitcoins, I would have all contacts in my mailbox, social media and “other” accounts advised of my nasty porn habits. The message was directed to my “username/password” combo in a very significant pattern. That pattern is one I use in only 2 sites, Whirlpool and PVOutput.

Significantly, these are the only 2 websites I have actually logged into in the last 3 weeks, as my current PC suffered a catastrophic meltdown, rendering it permanently off-line. I have just come back into the on-line world via a new laptop, which I am using now.

I am not taking the threat seriously, as I don’t have an email contacts list, and I don’t use social media – and I haven’t viewed any pron, so it’s 3 strikes for the knob-heads behind the attempted scam, but nevertheless, it should be noted that a breach may have occurred.

I will be advising the administrators of Whirlpool as well, but keep your eyes open folks, bad people are everywhere…and they may be hanging around PVO right now.

Some report that the passwords shown in the recent threat are old ones, so the password hack was probably done quite some time ago.

OK, thanks for that. Got a similar response over at WP. Just seems strange that this happened as soon as I fired up a new PC. Serendipity, or maybe Karma? :stuck_out_tongue:

PVOutput user passwords are encrypted and logins must use secure HTTPs.

Best practice is to not reuse passwords for different sites.
