I want Best Practices for Automating Data Uploads to PVOutput?

Hi everyone,

I have started using PVOutput and I am loving the insights it provides into my solar system’s performance. I would to streamline the process of uploading data and make it as automated as possible. I have come across the “Auto Uploader” section but feel a bit lost when it comes to choosing the best method or tool for my setup.

I have a Fronius inverter and a smart meter & would prefer a solution that does not require too much ongoing maintenance. While exploring options, I noticed some people mentioned using AWS DevOps for managing automation tasks but I am unsure if that is overkill for a PVOutput setup.

So, what are you all using to automate uploads? Any tips, software suggestion or scripts you swear by? Are there any common pitfalls I should avoid when setting up automation?

Also I have check this resorse Automatic Uploads: SolarEdge Extended Data still need your advice.

Thank you…

Hi @samuelwatson. Welcome to PVO.

You have mentioned that you have a Fronius inverter but haven’t specified which model. Earlier model Fronius inverters like the Symo, which I have and the Primo are capable of uploading data directly to PVO. The configuration information is in the HELP files accessible from the PVO website.

If you have a newer GEN24 you will need an external device, ( some sort of computer ) to run a script to extract a from the inverter AND then upload that data to PVO. The ‘device’ would need to run 24x7 if you wish to capture all of your generation AND consumption. Many people including myself use a Rasperry Pi for this task. The Pi is small and relatively efficient for the task.

Naturally either type of inverter will need to be connected to your home network either via WiFi or directly cabled if the WiFi is a bit iffy.

Grannos.
