I think my system is incorrectly set up. What is the right way?

Hello again to the PVO world…

In May 2015 purchased and setup a Current Cost system from Smartnow in Australia, with the ability to monitor Solar Generation, Home Usage and 3 Individual Appliance Monitors (IAM). Since then my system has been sending generation and home usage data to PVO via Current Cost / Xively. Until now I have not tried set up the 3 IAM.

Not sure if my terminology is correct but I think of this as system of 5 “channels” through one “feed” to PVO.

My question is what is the correct PVO relationship between feeds, systems and channels? If I have one feed / system can I expect to monitor all of my 5 channles (generation, usage, and 3 IAMs) ?

It looks like my current PVO settings (set up in 2015) are not quite right. I have two Systems registered:

  1. Rooftop Solar
  2. Home Usage

I can see my home usage data in the graphs … but only when focussed on system (1) so I suspect system (2) was a beginner mistake that actually does nothing, and could be deleted.

Any advice appreciated

thank you
Chris

In Xively terminology a feed holds one or more channels. Each channel represents one data stream.

A PVOutput system always contains the following standard data streams:

  • v1 = Energy Generation
  • v2 = Power Generation
  • v3 = Energy Consumption
  • v4 = Power Generation
  • v5 = Temperature
  • v6 = Voltage

In addition v7-v12 are arbitrary streams in which any numeric data can be uploaded.

Currently it is only possible to map an Xively channel to either v2, v4, v5.

Or v7 / v8 using the Secondary Device Auto Upload Device and Direction = Extended.

Ahah, thanks bankstownbloke that explains a lot.

I’m considering switching from Xlively to Energomonitor, partly because I’ve been told Xively is going to shut down, and also Xively goes off line randomly.

I understand Energomonitor will support my 5 channels (Solar, usage, 3 x IAMs). Question is can I setup to send and see all these Energomonitor channels on PVO?

TIA

Currently the Energomonitor Auto Uploader doesn’t support PVOutput Extended data, so only the Solar and Usage can be mapped to v2 and v4.

"currently’’?
Is it likely to change in near future?
And who would have to do this, Energomonitor or PVO?
thanks again

It is potentially a future enhancement which needs to be done on PVOutput.

ahah … would it help if I asked nicely? :sunglasses:

The best way is to add a new forum topic ‘idea’ and let others vote on it to determine prioritisation.
