Felix Solar Log, network (Speedwire) version: beta testers wanted for SMA Speedwire inverters
Hello all,
If you know Felix Solar Log (Our Android logger for SMA inverters, originally released in 2012 and Bluetooth only), this is its network version: Felix Solar Log IP. SMA’s newer inverters talk Speedwire over your home network instead of Bluetooth, so this sister app logs them over Wi-Fi instead. It does the same job: live power, today’s and total energy, a day graph, history, and optional upload to PVOutput.
The Bluetooth app carries on as it is. The new one is for Speedwire inverters only: it does not use Bluetooth at all, so it is no use for a Bluetooth-only inverter.
Where it stands: I have built and tested it against a test bridge of my own that converts a Bluetooth inverter into Speedwire. Sunny Explorer detects the bridge as a real Speedwire inverter, and the app works with it. What I have not had is a real SMA Speedwire inverter to try it on, and that is the step I need help with. You would be the first to run it on the real thing. The app only reads from the inverter. It cannot change any setting or the inverter’s clock.
Who I am looking for
- You have an SMA inverter with Speedwire, and you can connect to it with Sunny Explorer over your network (that tells me Speedwire is switched on and you know the inverter’s User password).
- Speedwire encryption is off (it is not supported yet; the app will tell you if it thinks yours is encrypted).
- An Android phone or tablet on Android 8 or newer, on the same Wi-Fi/network as the inverter.
- Comfortable following simple instructions and emailing me a text file if something goes wrong. No developer tools needed.
- Ideally, a spare Android device you can leave plugged in as a logger for a day or two. This is the most useful kind of test, but not essential.
What you get
This is a beta from Google Play’s internal testing, so you get to try it first. If it reaches the Play Store I intend to give beta testers a licence for it. (I’ll confirm details when I know them.)
What I would ask of you
Install it, add your inverter, check the numbers against what your inverter shows, leave it logging for a day if you can, and tell me what worked and what did not. If something fails, the app has a diagnostic log you switch on and share by email. Your password is never in it, and serial numbers and addresses are shortened to their last four characters.
How to volunteer
Please email me at felixthepuddytat@gmail.com with:
- Your inverter model (and firmware version if you know it)
- Whether Sunny Explorer connects to it over your WiFi → network
- Your Android device and Android version
- The Google account email you use for Google Play (needed to send you the test invitation; I’ll use it only for this)
- Whether you can leave a spare device logging for a day or two
We are looking to be ready for this very soon.
We can only pick a small number of people to test with. Thank you!
Clare and Steve.
